Coco CHANEL

Coco Chanel (1883-1971) is one of the most well known fashion designers, if not the most well known. She was one of the first "modern women" and possibly most famously remembered for her invention of the "Little Black Dress". Chanel style borrowed key elements from menswear and street fashion, while still maintaining a sense of elegance and charm. Coco Chanel never married, though she carried on several high profile affairs with men like the Duke of Westminster. When asked why she didn't marry the Duke, she explained "There have been several Duchesses of Westminster. There is only one Chanel." And today there is still only one, Coco Chanel...

"Nature gives you the face you have at twenty; it is up to you to merit the face you have at fifty."
"Fashion is not simply a matter of clothes. Fashion is in the air, born upon the wind. One intuits it. It is in the sky and on the road."

"Fashion has two purposes: comfort and love. Beauty comes when fashion succeeds."
"Fashion is architecture: it is a matter of proportions."
"As long as you know men are like children, you know everything."
